Maoist Movement in Nepal A Sociological Perspective examines the state sponsored discriminatory social practices in the Nepali society on the basis of religion caste ethnicity gender and language which directly and indirectly helped in boosting the eleven year long Maoist Movement. The book analyzes almost all the terms which have been used by different scholars for charactering such movements. It examines ideology environment organization and strategy of the Maoist Movement. It also critically analyzes the policies and the programs of the major political parties and their different governments during the second tenure of democracy (1990 2002) to address the people's aspirations. The Maoist Movement has reached a new phase after the King's February 1 2005 coup d'etat and the subsequent political developments in the country. The Seven Party Alliance Government after the successful Janaandolan II has helped to bring the Maoist Movement into the mainstream peaceful politics. In this context the book briefly discusses the shift of the Maoist Movement from insurgency to parliamentary politics. Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Nepal has reached a critical phase. The new constitution is in the making, and with its promulgation, the country would enter into a new phase of democracy along with a number of structural changes. During the last two decades, many significant issues have emerged on the scene of Nepali society and polity. The process of political transition has unfolded many dimensions of considerable importance. The questions of stabilization of democracy, federalism, ethnicity, regionalism, social inclusion, gender, etc., are becoming the core issues. The demography, migration and health issues are gaining currency demanding immediate attention. The media has started acquiring a relevant role in this context. The civil society too finds itself assuming new shape and role accordingly. The present volume is thus successful in taking account of a lot of issues that happened in Nepal, especially after the advent of democracy in the 1950s. The book has tried to link the past with the present; it tries to analyse the present with the lens of historical realities. The permanent nature of transition in Nepal has been attributed to power-greedy rulers of the past who always tried to play India or China card to remain in power. Similarly, marginalization of ethnic communities, Dalits, women, etc. by the King, political parties like the Nepal Congress and the CPN (UML) has been described as the prime reason behind the rise and growth of Maoist movement in Nepal.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book is a detailed account of how hierarchy has been maintained historically by the Nepali state, affirming the uniqueness of a caste-based social order by bringing outsiders, especially ethnic groups and religious minorities, into the caste fold. Focusing on the contemporary state of Dalits, the community that was and is put at the bottom of a very hierarchical social order in Nepal, the author argues that the traditional caste-based social order is still prevalent in the 'new' Nepal even after the recent socio-political and constitutional changes. Illustrated by scientifically employed and interpreted data mainly in the three sectors of education, politics and employment, the book postulates that people who were and are born into the 'high caste' still have more access to the resources and opportunities available in society in comparison with those born into the 'lower' caste. It further argues that although reservation policies are in place to address social exclusion, these could not bring expected outcomes mainly due to the lack of engagement, if not ignorance, of both dominant groups and the community in the margin. The absence of clarity among political actors on the positive discrimination and affirmative actions has contributed to backtracking the recently created space in line with 'inclusive Nepal'.
