By the autumn of that year proofs had been submitted to John Long and it was published in London in 1928. This is the first American edition published the following year. Soiling rubbing to the edges, a small crack to hinge, in a facsimile dust-jacket. 5½" - 7¾". book.

'The Gun' is the story of an arduous journey undertaken by Spanish partisans to transport a massive cannon across inhospitable terrain so as to use it to break the siege of Salas. 'Cecil Barr' was the sometime pseudonym of Jack Kahane, proprietor of the Obelisk Press, whose favorite watering hole in Paris was the bar of the Cecil Hotel. This tale recounts the marital, and extra marital, adventures of Tommy Trans-Wood and his 'charming' wife. This is a very good copy in wrappers illustrated by by G. Goursat. A little spotting on the wraps, but still a remarkably fresh, fine copy. The rear flap of the wrapper advertises the publisher's list including the upcoming *Tropic of Cancer*. A beautiful copy. 5½" - 7¼". book.

First edition, first impression; 8vo; publisher's orange cloth, titles to spine in black, mild partial browning to the endpapers, trace of erasure to front free endpaper, with the dust-jacket, some mild ghosting to the spine through the jacket but an exceptional copy in the little tanned and very slightly rubbed dust-jacket. The poet laureate, Cecil Day Lewis wrote a number of detective works under the name Nicholas Blake, of which this title is by far the best regarded. Copies of this UK printing in this condition with the jacket are extremely uncommon.
