Clodd and Grant Allen) first published in the weekly popular science journal 'Knowledge'. unpag. prelims+342+(2, Proctor list)+24 (pub.catalogue), 9 figs in Andrew Wilson… chapter 'Found Links'. Gutter opening, but quite secure, before first essay, brown flecking to fore-edge, otherwise internally clean, tight and unmarked. Red cloth covers clean and virtually unworn bar slight spine end rubbing. Topics tend to be on natural history and evolution but also include 'dreams', 'thought reading', Fiji, and 'germs of disease and death' as well as two opening essays by Proctor on Darwin and 'Newton and Darwin'. All editions now scarce in anything like reasonable condition. Marbled boards (scuffed, worn, passive). The leathered corners and spine have wear from handling and shel…ving and storage. All are secure and sure. The book has, at some stage, been subjected to damp storage. Consequently the pages are waved and dimpled like a flapper's hairstyle. There is foxing, mottling, some occasional tanning. However, the pages are clean, clear, confident, resolute, intriguing, benevolent and bountiful of information and intent.
