Surely the youngest member of the Ditchling crowd, the author was five when she wrote this as a birthday present to her mother. Her father was the calligrapher Edward Johnston whose a biography she later wrote.Covers slightly marked. Very good indeed.…

A biography of the great calligrapher and typographer written by his daughter.Presentation copy from Sidney Cockerell, inscribed by him on the front free endpaper: ''To Mary Corrigan with Sydney Cockerell's love - Kew 24 September 1959''. Sydney Cockerell was an eminent museum curator and a leading figure in the revival of calligraphy in Britain. In 1947 he published a tribute to Edward Johnston who had died in 1944. The recipient of the inscription is the elder sister of Dame Felicitas Corrigan who wrote The Nun, the Infidel and the Superman in which Cockerell is characterised as the Infidel.
