Large quarto, [viii], 470 pages with 233 bookplate illustrations plus 9 plates (one folding) and 16 tipped-in facsimile bookplates. Gilt-decorated synthetic cloth lightly marked and slightly bumped at the extremities (impacting a little on the corners of the book block); edges and first and last few leaves a little foxed; a very good copy. Number 197 of an unspecified limited edition. Provenance: Ann and Geoffrey Long, with their bookplate, designed by Pixie O'Harris, on the front pastedown.

Paperback. Zustand: Good. First Edition. 17 x 10.5cm. Undated [c.1862]. A set of 12 colour chromolithographs designed by W.H. Prior [i.e. William Henry Prior] with a 16pp booklet of text describing each scene, including The Pompeian Court designed by Matthew Digby Wyatt, The Grand Orchestra in the Central Transept, The Egyptian Court, The Byzantine Court, etc. The 12 cards are in a limp illustrated wrap with list of other publications in T. Nelson and Sons' English Views series, also containing the accompanying booklet. Some wear to the booklet spine, otherwise good condition. Very rare.

Original Wrappers. Zustand: Very Good binding. First Edition. Nice copy in the original card stock wrappers, which have been repaired at the spine. The dustjacket is present, and has been protected with a new mylar cover. There is some old tape stain to the endpapers. The bookplate of Frances Amelia Adams (engraved by Edwin Davis French) in on the front pastedown. Overall an attractive and serviceable copy of a scarce book on Italian ex libris. Very Good binding.

In-folio (cm. 35), pp. 215 (1). Antiporta figurata, frontespizio in rosso e nero e 676 figure in nero e a colori applicate su tavole fuori testo delle quali 80 tratte dai rami originali. Legatura editoriale in piena tela blu con titoli in oro al dorso e fregio al piatto. Taglio di testa dorato. Stampato su carta vergata. Alcune fioriture alle carte perlopiù marginali, ma bell esemplare, ben conservato. Straordinario lavoro monografico realizzato con grande perizia di stampa. La storia del biglietto da visita, analizzata in tutti i suoi aspetti, si trasforma in una sorta di storia del costume italiano del 700.

Herausgegeben als Neujahrsgabe der Zeitschrift "Ex-Libris Italiani". Nie im Buchhandel erschienen. In den Bibliotheken des KVK, im NUC und anderswo nicht nachweisbar. - Enthält sehr elegante Wiedergaben historischer italienischer Visitenkarten aus den Sammlungen von Bertarelli und Prior. - Die Mappe rissig und deutlich angerändert. Sonst gutes Exemplar.

Prior, Esq., the eminent artist of London." from the footnote to the first two publications. Only the first, Plymouth, could be located [at the British Library]. Presumably issued to accompany sets of engravings, I have been unable to trace to which illustrations these little guides refer.

Impresso su carta vergata. Qualche sparsa fioritura, minime tracce di usura esterne, ma bell'esemplare. Si tratta d'uno dei capolavori editoriali dell'Istituto d'Arti Grafiche di Bergamo.
