This is copy is Number 7/15 AP., Limited to 250 copies 28" x 35" (71x 89cm), there is an unobtrusive slight wrinkling (for about 6") on the top white margin, in fine clean condition expertly matted and suitably framed. (). This limited-edition reproduction has been copied from an original print which was a mezzotint engraved by J. Scott after the painting by S. Pearce. The original was published as a limited edition (only 100 proofs with facsimile autographs were registered with the Print Sellers' Association in London, England) by Graves and Company on August 29, 1851. It was the only print that was done depicting the Arctic Council. The limited-edition print has been printed in two colours, grey and black, on Carlyle Japan paper. The reproduction is limited to two hundred and fifty copies; each is numbered and registered. It has been reproduced exactly as it was originally issued, that is, at the same size and without a title. The Arctic Council was called into existence by the British Admiralty shortly after Sir John Franklin was reported lost while exploring the Arctic. Although the Arctic Council functioned for approximately five years it was comprised of the ten most famous and experienced men of polar exploration and British polar science. These men made significant contributions toward the geographical knowledge of the Arctic regions. They explored by land, ice and water, large areas of the Arctic which were previously unknown. Each member of the Arctic Council was distinguished in his own right, having published an account of the expedition which he led or accompanied as a scientist. Shown on the print, along with their facsimile autographs, are: Sir George Back, Sir Edmund Parry, Sir John Richardson, Sir James Ross, Sir Francis Beaufort, Colonel Sabine, Captain Hamilton, Captain Bird, Captain Beechy and Mr. Barrow; in addition, are the portraits of Sir John Franklin, James Fitzjames and John Barrow.
