Hand-coloured etching; trimmed within plate mark. 24 x 37cm. George BM Satires undescribed. Thirteen men, one in a cap of liberty, sit eating at a long table, seemingly at a French restaurant; a picture of Versaille hangs on the wall behind and the clock is inscribed 'a Paris'. A waiter, also in a red cap, stands behind them holding what appears to be a large plate of meat.

Uncoloured etching; trimmed close to plate mark but a very nice clean copy. Contemp. ms identifying Lord North & Fox at lower margin. 38 x 25.5cm. George, BM Satires 6178. North (left) and Fox (right) hanging back to back, each in a noose, from a stout post. At the top of the post is a large oval shield with a double St George's cross. Nails are fixed in the shield, and to these the ropes are attached. North's arms hang limply at his side; Fox's hands are clasped, he has a fox's head. A freely sketched landscape with clouds forms the background. On the unpopular and unlikely coalition government of Charles Fox and Lord North which ended when George III appointed William Pitt the Younger as Prime Minister in December 1783. Uncoloured etching; Previously laid into album causing a little bubbling. Plate 27 x 20cm on on heavy laid paper, 31 x 23cm. BM Satires 4809, dated c.1770, the BM copy acquired in 1818. Although the BM description refers to Smithfield Market, London, it is probable that the subject is Dublin's Smithfield horse market which developed from a more general livestock market originally established c.1600. It still continues today, despite many attempts to close it down. Here, the salesman extolls the many virtues of his beast: 'I never saw ne'er a horse for the money that cou'd go his paces better.' but ends up appealing for at least 'a full pot, and six pence for the boy, and the bargain's a bargain.' The image under the heading is of a rather emaciated 'horse' looking rather more like a donkey, it's owner behind, young boy astride, with two potential buyers examining teeth and hooves. Hand-coloured etching, with a signed annotation by George Cruikshank stating 'not by any of the Cruikshank family GCk'; trimmed close with sl. loss to two letters of title. 38 x 27. Mounted framed & glazed. George BM Satires 13100. A scarce print with only a single copy located at the BM. One of many examples of Cruikshank revisiting prints marking them with which member of the famously collaborative Cruikshank family had drawn which part of the print. In this example, he notes categorically that neither he, his brother Robert, or his father Isaac, had had any involvement with the production of this caricature. The image is of an attractive and well dressed young woman with her left arm on the shoulder of a diminutive man dressed in full military dress uniform and an arm towards his amour's right hand.
