Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. ANSON, George Edward (1812-1849). Autograph note signed in his capacity as private secretary to Prince Albert. Buckingham Palace, 3 November 1848. Single sheet, approx. 225 × 180 mm, written in ink on pale cream paper. Horizontal folds, otherwise clean. Very good.  Official acknowledgment written by George Anson, private secretary to Prince Albert, thanking Mr Gamble for his communication of 31 October, accompanied with a Prospectus of the Electric Telegraph Company. The Electric Telegraph Company, founded in 1846, was the world's first public telegraph company and in 1848 remained in its early years of operation. Telegraphy was already of direct royal interest, and in time Queen Victoria would use the company to get a private line installed to the Isle of Wight. The sender is plausibly identified as either John Gamble or Douglas Pitt Gamble, both associated with litigation against the Electric Telegraph Company shortly after its formation. It is feasible that one of the two Gambles were lobbying Prince Albert, to state their case, using the prospectus to point out their grievances. . Signed by Author(s).

Two pages, 12mo, one stain, fold marks, sl. grubby, text clear, as follows: "The Prince of Wales has at the same time desired Sir W. Knollys to tell My Dighton that H.R.H. thinks the likeness of the King of the Belgians would be much improved if he could make the nose a little longer and the beard a little darker -- The portrait shall therefore remain in Sir W. Knollys's room should nr Dighton wish to take it away with the view of making the improvements which the Prince has suggested." A list of names in pencil (Dighton's hand) has been added, including Thomas Baring and Combermere.

pp. 18. Plan of the Choir of St. George's Chapel, Windsor. Contemporary red straight-grained morocco by HATCHARDS, titled in gilt on the front cover with the gilt initials of Albert Edward below the device of the three feathers, all edges gilt, an excellent copy. *The first page of text is titled DRAFT - the following text is printed in single column towards the outer margin, surmounted by a crown, and lists the process of the ceremonial and the order of precedence of the participants. This appears to be an advance copy for a member of the royal household. COPAC records a copy with an almost identical title, Manchester University only.

1p, 12mo. In good condition, lightly aged. Laid down on a part of a leaf from an album. Reads: 'Mr. Anson begs to acknowledge the receipt of Mr. D'Orsey's Letter of the 6th. instant and to acquaint him in reply that he has submitted his appeal to Her Majesty The Queen who regrets that the great pressure of claims upon Her Majesty's private Bounty prevents a compliance with Mr. Dorsey's request.'.

Three pages (of a bifolium), folio, yellowed and somewhat transparent, sl. crumpled, sellotape repairing split in second leaf, but text clear and complete. Text (secretarial handwriting) outlines at length the aim of recruiting highly qualified "Jurors" ("eminent men") for the French Exhibition of 1878, and going on to invite Vincent Robinson to act as "Juror" "for Class xxi (Carpets, Tapestry, etc.). See Image of pp.2 & 3, illustrating condition and signature. Note: "A. ROBINSON, VINCENT JOSEPH (1829-1910), connoisseur of oriental art, [] Robinson was director of the Indian section of the Paris Exhibition, 1889, and was made a knight of the Legion of Honour."; B.
