Condition Very Good: Publisher's original cloth binding shows mild wear to extremities, with light curling to the corner tips and moderate rubbing along the edges, heaviest at the spine head; lighter rubbing visible along the spine joints. Gilt-tooled publisher's title label shows surface scratching but remains clear and legible. Boards display general sunning and small surface scuffs yet remain clean overall. Binding slightly shaken but secure. Browning to endpapers from a long-removed insert. Internally, pages show faint age-related toning to the margins but remain bright, clean and tidy. A sound, well-preserved copy. Description First Edition, published jointly in London by Bemrose & Sons and in Carlisle by Thurman & Sons, 1899. An important late-Victorian study of regional speech, with W. Dickinson's original work expanded by E. W. Prevost's supplementary material, reflecting scholarly interest in preserving northern English dialects at the turn of the twentieth century. Early dialect studies of this kind were produced in comparatively modest numbers and are increasingly sought after in regional and linguistic collections. Slight creasing to several pages. Text block edges slightly sunned. Boards have some moderate edge wear, with slight bumping to corners and minor bumping to spine ends. Boards a little rubbed and marked overall, with moderate scratches to the leather. Spine is a little sunned. Gilt is bright.
