The Natyacudamani of Somanarya is an unpublished musicological work written in Sanskrit and is accompanied by a Telugu commentary. The author of this work is Astavadana Somanarya who is said to have lived during the reign of King Acyutar¡ya of the Vijayanaga…r Empire (1540 A.D.). The Telugu commentary seems to belong to a later period. The present edition is brought out with the help of fifteen manuscripts. Though the title reads Natyacudamani, the available text mainly consists of chapters on Gita and Vidya and only a few verses relate to Natya. Somanarya 's work presents some of the traditional musicological views in a tangential manner and it has made a strong influence on many later works of South India.

The manuscripts on Indian music and dance focus on Sangita, Raga, Natya, Vadya and Tala. In this background, a musicological work dealing exclusively with Tala is remarkable. Talalaksanam is a rare work written by King Achyutaraya of the Vijayanagar Empire during 16th Century A.D. This is a Sanskrit work with a Telugu commentary. We come to know about the importance of this work through the quotations of the great scholar Manavalli Ramkrishna Kavi in his Bharatakosa. Talalaksanam is regarded as a significant work as it quotes from many rare works relating to Tala. This text speaks only about the Tala daa prana-s ñ the ten vital elements of Tala. Manuscript of this work was first discovered by Dr. V. Premalatha and published in the Journal of the Madras Music Academy, 2009. She has also brought out a critical edition and translation of another music related manuscript Natyacudamani which was published by the National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM) in 2014. The present publication is a critical edition based on three manuscripts and comes with a Roman transliteration and English translation. Dr. Premalatha is a dedicated scholar, who has been in Music and Manuscript research for more than twenty five years. This publication shows her knowledge and dedication in undertaking the editions of unpublished music related manuscripts. And the Mission is always in forefront to bring out such rare works.

Today's commercially available biometric systems show good reliability. However, they generally lack user acceptance. Users showed an antipathy towards touching a possibly dirty fingerprint scanner, or looking into an iris scanner that might malfunction and eventually impair their vision. Whether those fears are well founded or not is less important. The fact is, they have considerable influence on user acceptance. And user consent is important for a good and successful application of a biometric system, as well as for good recognition rates.In response to the increasing demand for reliable as well as user friendly biometric systems, this work investigates the applicability of palmprint and FKP were the biometric features for authentication. Using palmprint or FKP as a biometric system avoids such problems as shown before, since it requires no subject interaction.The main objectives of the thesis are: to propose the transform based techniques that is used to achieve higher recognition accuracy and lower equal error rate; and to examine the performance of the proposed techniques with the existing methodologies.
