There is some edge wear to the boards of the book, particularly in the corners and on the top and bottom edges of the spine, where the cloth is torn and fraying. Despite this, the boards are exceedingly beau…tiful. Intricately pressed and with charming gold gilt to the front and spine. Internally, the end pages are slightly yellowed, but this does not extend into the body of the book. There are no markings or inscriptions, and the pages within are pristine, crisp and complete. The cover design is signed at foot "J.L." (i.e. John Leighton) at foot Slight bumping and wear to corners but otherwise a very good copy. Front paste-down has the…bookseller's ticket of "W.H.Mason, Repository of Arts, 108 King's Road, Brighton" and the rear paste-down has the ticket of "Leighton, Son and Hodge, Shoe Lane, London". This striking binding appears on p44 of McLean's Victorian Publishers' Book-Bindings.
