Powell on board the "Theseus", whose voyage to the East covered '24, 854 miles in all' and took 102 days, 73 of which were 'spent on sea and 29 on land'. With four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of the text. Featuring prior owner's ink inscription to the front pastedown: 'A E Smith' Collated complete with 12 monochromatic plates, and two additional tipped-in plates in colour: 'A Japanese Flower Guard' (facing page xvi) and 'A Japanese Girl' (facing page xvi). In original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Slightly bumped to extremities and head and tail of spine. Sunned to spine. Slight marks to front and rear board.
