A new edition, with his last corrections to which are added, a short account of the life of the author, a method of curing the hydrocele by injection, and occasional notes and observations. Lacks all before title including front board. Also lacks index. Text complete and the 9 plates are present, albeit with some damp staining to the edges. A couple of pages creased at lower corner. Rear board and spine backstrip loose, with small losses at spine head/foot. Used - Acceptable. Poor hardback.

L'ouvrage contient la première description du cancer du scrotum, appelé aussi cancer des ramoneurs, que Pott attribue à la suie et aux goudrons ayant imprégné leurs vêtements et les plis de la peau recouvrant les testicules. Il s'oppose ainsi à l'opinion qui faisait de cette maladie une atteinte vénérienne en raison de son siège. L'ouvrage est augmenté de deux traités de J. Earle: l'un sur la cure radicale de l'hydrocèle, par le moyen d'une injection; l'autre sur les excroissances hémorroïdales. Percival Pott (1714-1788) fut l'un des meilleurs chirurgiens anglais de son époque. Il est reconnu pour avoir décrit le mal qui porte son nom, décrivant une tuberculose vertébrale, qui nécessite parfois un traitement chirurgical orthopédique. Intéressant exemplaire, provenant de la bibliothèque du Dr Denucé, avec son cachet ex-libris sur les pages de titre : Maurice Denucé (1855-1918) est justement l'auteur d'une étude sur le Mal de Pott (Paris, Rueff, 1896).
