I chose a 1912 Hispano-Suiza because they came cheaper that way; I should have preferred mine to have been built in 1926. I kept this Hispano-Suiza for a couple of years, and I put up with the contempt of my contemporaries for a car so old because it could so easily overtake so many of their much younger vehicles. At the end of these two years, however, it became ap-parent that the Hispano needed a thorough overhaul. This, even in those days, was going to cost money, and I found that for very little more I could buy a much newer car which was just as fast.
