Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This dissertation investigates a phenomenon that readers have long sensed but scholarship has rarely measured: the presence of humor in the Christian Bible. Although a scattered tradition of literary study has argued that irony, wordplay, satire, and comic reversal pervade both Testaments, the field has lacked a shared taxonomy, a reproducible discovery procedure, and any formal estimate of how reliably readers can agree on what counts as humor. I address these gaps through a sequential mixed-methods design that braids together three complementary strands of evidence. First, a literary-critical close reading of the secondary literature yields a corpus of 85 candidate humor passages drawn from 15 biblical books and classified with an eight-category codebook spanning wordplay or paronomasia, hyperbole, satire or parody, verbal irony, situational irony, dramatic irony, absurdity or the grotesque, and comic reversal. The distribution across categories is far from uniform, indicating that certain comic mechanisms dominate the canon. Second, a corpus-based computational strand runs lemma-based root-repetition procedures over the BHSA Hebrew and MorphGNT Greek corpora, surfacing 3,037 unfiltered candidate repetitions from 17,176 Hebrew words. Third, a simulated annotation exercise (Monte Carlo, seed 42) models three annotators across the 85 passages and returns modest chance-corrected agreement for humor type alongside a striking split between low presence agreement by kappa and high agreement by prevalence-adjusted AC1 (.876). Reading these results together produces the study's central theoretical contribution: an observable-interpretive continuum that explains why humor identification is simultaneously easy and hard, and why simple reliability coefficients mislead when comic signals are rare and interpretive. A translation-comparison analysis shows how fragile these signals are, with the Isaac laughter pun preserved in only 29.7% of surveyed English renderings and the Eglon episode in 20.0%, while cross-strand convergence reaches just 7.9%. Adopting a critical-realist stance, I argue that biblical humor is a real feature of the text that our instruments only partially detect, and that honest measurement of that partiality is itself a scholarly gain.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The twenty-first century is defined by our pervasive reliance on digital infrastructure. From powering our homes and economies to facilitating global communication and governance, these interconnected systems form the bedrock of modern society. Yet, this digital foundation is under constant siege. The evolution of cyber threats has outpaced traditional defense mechanisms, characterized by an alarming increase in their speed, sophistication, and scale. Adversaries, ranging from nation-states to sophisticated criminal organizations, are continuously developing novel methods to exploit vulnerabilities, disrupt services, and compromise sensitive data. The potential impact of a successful attack on critical national infrastructure-such as the energy grid, financial markets, or transportation networks-could be devastating, jeopardizing national security, economic stability, and public safety. In this context, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged not merely as a technological advancement, but as a critical determinant in the future of cybersecurity and national security. Among the most promising AI paradigms for tackling these complex challenges is Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL). DRL enables systems to learn optimal strategies through trial-and-error interactions with their environment, a process that mimics human learning and adaptation. This capability holds immense potential for developing dynamic, adaptive, and intelligent cybersecurity solutions capable of detecting novel threats, responding autonomously to incidents, and continuously improving defensive postures. Imagine an AI agent learning to play a complex game not by being programmed with every possible move, but by playing millions of games, learning from its successes and failures. This is the essence of DRL, and it is precisely this learning capability that we aim to harness for defense. However, the very power that makes DRL a compelling tool for defense also makes it a formidable weapon in the hands of adversaries. AI can be leveraged to automate vulnerability discovery, create evasive malware, and orchestrate highly coordinated and intelligent cyberattacks. Understanding this dual-use nature is paramount for national security policymakers and cybersecurity practitioners. This book aims to bridge the gap between the theoretical underpinnings of DRL and its practical implications for protecting critical infrastructure. We will explore the foundational concepts of DRL, analyze how it can be weaponized, examine its specific applications in defending vital sectors, and discuss the strategic, methodological, and ethical considerations involved. Our goal is to equip readers-cybersecurity professionals, AI researchers, national security experts, and policymakers-with the knowledge necessary to understand, anticipate, and counter AI-driven threats while leveraging AI for a more secure future.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The practice of purposeful body modification-including tattooing, body piercing, cosmetic surgery, and scarification-has become a statistically normative feature of contemporary American culture, with 32% of U.S. adults reporting at least one tattoo (Ipsos, 2023) and 17.5 million cosmetic procedures performed annually (American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 2022). Despite this prevalence, the Christian church lacks a comprehensive, theologically grounded pastoral care framework for responding to congregants who have or are considering body modifications. This dissertation addresses this gap through a sequential exploratory mixed-methods design grounded in Richard Osmer's four tasks of practical theological interpretation, Emmanuel Lartey's intercultural pastoral care model, and David Entwistle's integrative approach to psychology and Christianity. Phase 1 employed qualitative content analysis of denominational documents from Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Evangelical Protestant, and Mainline Protestant traditions, identifying seven deductive themes and three emergent themes structuring Christian ethical reasoning about the body. Phase 2 conducted descriptive quantitative analysis of five publicly available datasets-the General Social Survey (2010-2022, N = 19,347), Pew Research Center (2023), American Society of Plastic Surgeons (2022), Ipsos (2019), and Barna Group (2018, 2022, 2023)-revealing an inverse relationship between religious commitment and body modification prevalence, significant generational divides (40% of Millennials vs. 10% of Baby Boomers have tattoos), and a 17-percentage-point decline in Christian identification among Generation Z. Phase 3 integrated findings through joint display analysis, producing four meta-inferences: the Religiosity-Modification Gradient, Theological Consensus Amid Pastoral Divergence, the Generational Pastoral Imperative, and the Autonomy-Identity-Spiritual Formation Tension. The primary contribution is the VESSEL Framework-a six-component pastoral care and Christian counseling model comprising Validate (affirming dignity and Imago Dei), Explore (understanding motivation and narrative), Scripture (collaborative theological reflection), Spiritual Formation (bodily stewardship and discipleship), Ecclesial Integration (community belonging), and Long-term Discipleship (ongoing pastoral relationship). The framework is theologically conservative, ecumenically adaptable, empirically informed, and practically actionable. Implications extend to pastoral practice, Christian counseling, theological education, and the academy. …

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - As NASA's Artemis program inaugurates a new era of human deep-space exploration, the development of autonomous navigation systems capable of operating independently of Earth-based infrastructure has become an operational imperative. This study investigated the design, implementation, and validation of an integrated artificial intelligence (AI) framework combining convolutional neural network (CNN)-based optical navigation with reinforcement learning (RL)-based trajectory optimization for autonomous guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) in cislunar space, informed by NASA's Artemis II crewed lunar flyby mission launched on April 1, 2026. The study employed a simulation-based experimental design incorporating Circular Restricted Three-Body Problem (CRTBP) dynamics and realistic optical imaging models. A CNN crater detection module processed synthetic navigation imagery against the Robbins (2019) global lunar crater catalog, an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) fused optical measurements with inertial data for continuous state estimation, and a Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) reinforcement learning agent computed fuel-optimal trajectory correction maneuvers in real time. Performance was evaluated across 13 quantitative criteria using 200 Monte Carlo simulation runs. The integrated system met 9 of 13 performance criteria, achieving CNN crater detection precision of 0.890, mean average precision of 0.862 at IoU 0.50, crater matching accuracy of 0.866, and position determination within approximately 5 km using purely autonomous onboard processing. The RL controller achieved mean fuel savings of 14.82% over the classical proportional-derivative baseline while simultaneously reducing position tracking error by 22.8%, demonstrating a Pareto improvement in the fuel-accuracy trade space. The system operated within real-time computational constraints (CNN: 0.74 s, EKF: 41 ms, RL: 6.8 ms per cycle), confirming onboard deployment feasibility. The framework is assessed at Technology Readiness Level 3-4 and provides a validated pathway toward AI-enhanced autonomous navigation for Artemis missions and future deep-space exploration in GPS-denied environments.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The contemporary expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) rests on a wager that computational scaling laws will keep converting additional compute into additional capability. This dissertation asks whether the physical infrastructure required to sustain that wager is technically and environmentally scalable. Using a quantitative multi-case technical sustainability assessment, the study evaluates six of the most consequential multinational AI data center megaprojects announced through 2026: the Microsoft-OpenAI partnership in Wisconsin, the Oracle-OpenAI compute agreement in Abilene, Texas, the Stargate consortium, Meta's hyperscale expansion in Louisiana and Ohio, the aggregate hyperscaler capital-expenditure surge, and the NVIDIA-OpenAI systems partnership. A six-component analytical framework, comprising energy demand modeling, cooling and power usage effectiveness analysis, carbon-footprint estimation, water-footprint analysis, hardware architecture and scalability analysis, and bottleneck or constraint analysis, is applied to each project using exclusively public data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Geological Survey, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, corporate sustainability disclosures, and semiconductor specifications. The analysis finds that five site-assigned facilities alone imply approximately 7.2 gigawatts of new electrical demand and 44.2 terawatt-hours of annual consumption, generating roughly 18.3 million metric tons of location-based carbon dioxide each year on grids that remain, on average, roughly three-quarters fossil-fueled. Although liquid cooling reduces power usage effectiveness to between 1.08 and 1.25, deployment scale overwhelms these efficiency gains, empirically confirming a Jevons paradox dynamic in which per-operation efficiency rises while absolute resource consumption climbs. Grid interconnection and generation emerge as the systemic binding constraint, most acutely in Texas, where reserve margins are projected to turn sharply negative. The study concludes that efficiency improvements are necessary but insufficient to render frontier compute sustainable, and that absolute resource accounting must anchor infrastructure planning. It contributes a replicable, evidence-status-aware framework and completes a companion trilogy alongside governance (Pokorny, 2026a) and economic-geopolitical (Pokorny, 2026b) analyses.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - For seventy-eight years the international community has repeated the promise of 'never again,' yet genocide has recurred with grim regularity. This dissertation asks why the architecture of international accountability has expanded across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries even as mass atrocity has persisted, and it locates the answer in what it terms the impunity-atrocity nexus: the permissive structure through which the failure to punish one génocidaire lowers the perceived cost of the next. The study assembles the first unified dataset covering 16 genocidal leaderships across nearly three centuries (1755-2026), from the Qianlong Emperor's destruction of the Dzungars to Omar al-Bashir's Darfur campaign, and sorts them into four Impunity Profiles reflecting the international system's response capacity during each regime's tenure. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design integrates negative binomial regression (NBR) and non-parametric tests with fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) and comparative historical analysis, drawing on the CIRIGHTS Data Project, the Political Terror Scale, the Transitional Justice Evaluation Tools, United Nations Security Council voting records, and International Criminal Court documents. Three findings anchor the argument. First, major power protection is the single strongest predictor of impunity, with every one of nine P5-protected leaders escaping accountability while five of seven unprotected leaders faced it. Second, fsQCA identifies MPS\*NVG\* IJM-major power support, victim dehumanization, and the absence of an international judicial mandate-as the dominant recipe for impunity (consistency = .96). Third, a Judicial Mandate Paradox emerges: judicial mechanisms strongly predict eventual accountability but not lower death tolls, and every full-accountability case required military defeat. Impunity nonetheless declines across time (1.00 ? 0.33 from Profile 1 to Profile 4), suggesting incremental institutional evolution constrained by the persistence of the veto shield. The dissertation reconceptualizes sovereignty as a conditional status and offers evidence-based implications for the Responsibility to Protect, the ICGLR, and United Nations genocide-prevention policy.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Apostle is a sweeping literary novel that brings the life of Paul - tentmaker, persecutor, prisoner, and the most consequential missionary in history - to vivid, visceral life. From the goat-hair workshops of Tarsus to the marble colonnades of Athens, from a blinding light on the Damascus road to the cold stone of a Roman cell, this is the story of a small, scarred, relentless man who carried a message across the ancient world and changed it forever. Grounded in three academic dissertations by scholar Dr. Laszlo Pokorny and faithful to the biblical and historical record, the novel dramatizes the full arc of Paul's journey: the making of the zealot, the shattering encounter that unmade him, and the thirty years of shipwrecks, riots, letters, and chains that followed. Written in the tradition of literary biography - with the storytelling sweep of Ron Chernow, the moral attentiveness of Doris Kearns Goodwin, and a prose style at once muscular and deeply felt - The Apostle does what scholarship alone cannot: it puts the reader inside Paul's skin. You will stand with him in the ruin of a grain ship on the fourteenth night of a storm, feel the lash counted out across his back, hear him singing hymns at midnight in a Philippian jail, and watch him rise, battered and unbroken, to face Caesar. This is a novel that treats faith not as abstraction but as lived experience - gritty, costly, and ferociously human. At its heart, The Apostle is a story about what it means to be seized by something larger than yourself and poured out in its service. It is for readers who love richly rendered historical fiction, for anyone curious about the man behind the epistles, and for those who believe that the most extraordinary lives are best understood not through footnotes but through the flesh-and-blood art of storytelling. The apostle who could not save himself saved everyone around him - and this novel shows you how, and why, and what it cost.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The continued exponential growth of artificial intelligence (AI) workloads has outpaced the energy-efficiency gains available from conventional complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) scaling, producing a memory wall and a power wall that constrain both data-center and edge deployment of neural networks. Spintronic devices, particularly spin-transfer torque magnetoresistive random access memory (STT-MRAM), spin-orbit torque MRAM (SOT-MRAM), and stochastic magnetic tunnel junctions configured as probabilistic bits (p-bits), offer non-volatility, sub-nanosecond switching, and intrinsic radiation hardness that may simultaneously address these limitations. The purpose of this quantitative quasi-experimental dissertation was to design and evaluate a unified spintronic microprocessor architecture for neuromorphic AI computing and to quantify its energy efficiency, write performance, probabilistic inference capability, and radiation tolerance relative to CMOS baselines. A four-tier multi-scale simulation methodology was implemented, comprising OOMMF and MuMax3 micromagnetic modeling of the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert-Slonczewski equation, HSPICE circuit simulation with Monte Carlo process variation, NeuroSim and a custom compute-in-memory (CIM) simulator for array-level analysis, and PyNN/NEST spiking neural network evaluation at the 45 nm technology node, encompassing 2,847 independent simulation runs. Four research questions addressed energy efficiency, hybrid SOT-STT switching, p-bit Bayesian inference, and radiation tolerance, each with preregistered hypotheses and corresponding statistical tests. Results demonstrated a 5.92× improvement in tera-operations per second per watt (TOPS/W) for SOT-MRAM CIM over SRAM CIM (RQ1), a 75.3% write energy reduction with a concurrent 50× endurance improvement under hybrid SOT-STT switching (RQ2), a 13.6× energy advantage of p-bit Bayesian inference over digital CMOS implementations (RQ3), and the maintenance of 93.82% inference accuracy at 10 Mrad(Si) total ionizing dose with a 263× improvement in single-event-upset critical charge (RQ4). A radiation-hardened-by-design spintronic architecture achieved 28.4 TOPS/W-a 3.64× improvement over unhardened SRAM CIM-at a 2.1× MRAM CIM area overhead, with analog-to-digital conversion identified as the dominant remaining energy consumer. These findings provide theoretical, methodological, and practical contributions to the design of energy-efficient, fault-tolerant, uncertainty-aware AI accelerators for terrestrial edge, automotive, aerospace, and space applications.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The exponential growth of artificial intelligence workloads has created an unsustainable trajectory in computational energy consumption, while the deceleration of Moore's Law and breakdown of Dennard scaling constrain electronic hardware from meeting this demand. This dissertation investigates photonic computing as a post-silicon paradigm for energy-efficient neural network processing, evaluating three architectures-Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) mesh processors, micro-ring resonator (MRR) weight banks, and phase-change material (PCM) tensor cores-through a three-phase mixed-methods design. Phase 1 benchmarked four photonic against four electronic AI accelerators, revealing a median energy efficiency advantage of 2.36× (5.19 vs. 2.20 TOPS/W) with a large effect size (Cohen's d = 0.76) and directional support from 89.8% of 10,000 bootstrap resamples. Statistical significance was not achieved (p = .354) owing to 14.9% power in the near-census sample (n = 4 per group), consistent with a Type II error. Phase 2 modeled architectural barriers: silicon MRRs exhibited thermal drift of 100 pm/°C, MZI processors lost >60% accuracy at ±3°C deviation, 64×64 meshes required phase error tolerances of s. …

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The sustained global expansion of nuclear energy, driven by the imperative to decarbonize electricity generation and enhance energy security, has intensified the urgency of resolving the spent nuclear fuel management challenge. The current global inventory exceeding 400,000 metric tons of heavy metal continues to grow by approximately 10,500 MTHM annually, while no nation has yet commissioned a permanent geological repository for high-level waste from commercial operations. The legacy Plutonium Uranium Extraction process, though industrially mature, produces a separated pure plutonium stream that poses unacceptable proliferation risks and consigns long-lived minor actinides to high-level waste, complicating repository design and performance. This dissertation developed and applied a comprehensive computational framework to conduct the first unified multi-criteria comparison of four advanced aqueous reprocessing technologies-Co-Extraction, Uranium Extraction Plus, Grouped Actinide Extraction, and innovative Selective Actinide Extraction-across three evaluation pillars: technical performance, economic viability, and proliferation resistance. The integrated methodology coupled isotopic depletion analysis using ORIGEN within the SCALE code system with process flowsheet modeling analogous to the Argonne Model for Universal Solvent Extraction, discounted cash flow economic evaluation, Bathke Figure of Merit proliferation assessment, Multi-Attribute Utility Theory scoring, and weighted-sum multi-criteria decision analysis. Results demonstrated that GANEX and i-SANEX meet the stringent dual targets of greater than 99.5% actinide recovery and less than 0.1% lanthanide contamination, while COEX and UREX+ fall short of the lanthanide purity requirement. Sensitivity analysis identified nitric acid concentration as the most critical process parameter, with an elasticity index of -4.76 for separation factor response. Total plutonium mass increased 65.1% across the burnup range studied, with Pu-238 fractions remaining below the 6% heat barrier threshold. The breakeven uranium price exceeded $640/kgU, confirming that reprocessing is not economically competitive without externalities under current conditions. GANEX and i-SANEX demonstrated an 82% improvement in the Bathke Figure of Merit over COEX for proliferation resistance. Integrated multi-criteria decision analysis ranked GANEX first in both balanced and security-focused weighting scenarios, establishing it as the most promising technology for deployment in Generation IV fast reactor fuel cycles. These findings provide an evidence-based decision support framework for policymakers and technologists navigating advanced fuel cycle technology selection.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The United States has accumulated over 90,000 metric tons of initial heavy metal (MTHM) of commercial spent nuclear fuel (SNF), managed exclusively as high-level radioactive waste awaiting geological disposal. Yet this inventory contains strategically valuable materials, including medical radioisotopes such as molybdenum-99 and cesium-137, platinum group metals (PGMs) including ruthenium, rhodium, and palladium, rare earth elements (REEs), and americium-241 suitable for radioisotope power systems in deep-space exploration. This dissertation evaluated the technical feasibility and economic viability of multi-product isotope and material recovery from commercial SNF through an integrated techno-economic assessment. The research employed a four-phase pragmatist mixed-methods design: (1) ORIGEN/SCALE-based isotope inventory characterization benchmarked against SFCOMPO 2.0 experimental data, (2) discounted cash flow and 100,000-iteration Monte Carlo techno-economic modeling of an 800 MTHM/year recovery facility, (3) comparative lifecycle assessment conducted under ISO 14040/14044 standards, and (4) Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) supply chain concentration analysis. Results demonstrated that the U.S. SNF stockpile contains approximately 391 tonnes of PGMs, 1,322 tonnes of REEs, and 54.6 tonnes of americium-241. The techno-economic model yielded a net present value of -$18.2 billion with a 0% probability of positive NPV under current market conditions. However, SNF-derived PGM recovery achieves a 98.1% reduction in global warming potential and 99.7% lower primary energy demand compared to conventional mining. Removal of key heat-generating isotopes reduces repository decay heat by 77%, enabling a 4.3-fold increase in geological repository capacity. All target materials exhibited HHI values exceeding 2,500, confirming highly concentrated global supply chains vulnerable to geopolitical disruption. These findings reveal a central paradox: pure market economics do not support commercialization, yet integration of environmental externalities, repository cost offsets, and strategic supply chain value substantially reframes the viability assessment. This dissertation concludes that SNF constitutes a strategic national resource warranting sustained research and development investment and targeted policy mechanisms to bridge the gap between market failure and strategic necessity.…
