Prague: L. D. Pleva, 1933-1934. Octavos (23.8 × 15.7 cm). Original pictorial photo-illustrated wrappers; 64 and 30 pp. With numerous photographs on coated stock. Very good. Complete run in two issues of the short-lived monthly on film and cinematic art, edited by L. D. Pleva together with V?ra Stará (first issue) and Josef Hloucha (second issue). The first issue opens with a short editorial statement and facsimiles of greetings to the editors, including by Voskovec and Werich; an article on "film and art" is followed by an article about the Californian film industry, with Joan Crawford spelled as Jean Grawford. Pleva contributed an article on the aesthetics of film; Robert Kratochvil a work of science fiction prose and a review of the D34 theatre studio. The second issue features a short article on the Czech avant-garde and Alexander Hackenschmied and Karel Plicka's film "Bezú?elná procházka" (An aimless walk). Other texts, including a contribution by E. F. Burian, concern the theatre and the Osvobozené divadlo (Liberated theatre) is mentioned as well. Much of the focus of the second issue is also on American film and the plans of Hollywood directors, and several illustrations speak to the notion of "sex appeal" in cinema.
