In 1924 and 1928, the Swiss architect Hans Bernoulli built a settlement of terraced houses for Zurich's working class in two stages. The small houses with gardens should offer a home for families, be affordable and create a sense of community. The interior and exterior spaces were originally constructed identically, as is typical for a terraced housing estate. But over time and as new residents moved in, the floor plans changed, walls were torn down and rebuilt, and each house was individualized as desired. Photographs by Marc Bachmann and texts by the documentary filmmaker Marianne Pletscher, who herself owns a Bernoulli house, present the people in portraits, tell their stories and show life in these unique houses. - Text in German.
