Erstausgabe
Softcover. Zustand: Very Good. Illustrated by (cover photo) Douglas Playle (illustrator). 1st Edition (softcover issue). [a nice tight copy with minimal wear, but with a short diagonal crease at the top right corner of the front cover, and a bit of surface damage on the rear cover]. Mass Market PB "A haunting, prophetic novel of the near future," in which a deadly disease wipes out most of the world's population, leaving only seven thousand people alive in England to rebuild their dead civilization, "to construct a new society from the surrounding wasteland where the technology and skills of the old life had become obsolete." Published simultaneously in a hardcover edition by Wiedenfeld & Nicolson, it's blurbed as "the inspiration for the BBC television series of the same name" (an image from which was used in the cover design for this paperback edition), although the show actually went on the air the year before this paperback edition was published (it ran for 38 episodes over three seasons, from 1975 to 1977). Another iteration (12 episodes, in two seasons) was produced by the BBC and broadcast from 2008 to 2010, which its producers stated was "not a remake" of the 1970s series, but was based more closely on the book.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - From a human viewpoint, the cold waters of deep sea and polar marine regions present an inhospitable and harsh environment for life. The study of organisms which have exploited this seemingly hostile ecological niche has revealed intriguing physiological adaptations. This volume summarizes the information on the adaptations exhibited by representatives of the main groups of polar animals, including marine invertebrates, fish, mammals and birds, at scales ranging from the whole organism through to the underlying molecular adaptational mechanisms. Unique in its breadth of coverage, this volume will provide an important resource for all those concerned specifically with how animals have adapted to life in extreme conditions, as well as being of general interest to all marine biologists.

In den Warenkorbpaperback. Zustand: Good. Singleton, Alexander Graham (illustrator). Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.
