In den Warenkorb28 x 21cm. Paperback magazine, 63pp. Contains the artworks Wittgenstein in New York & Tortured Life by Eduardo Paolozzi (from the 'As Is When' series) and the rear cover is J.G. Ballard's spurious "Advertiser's Announcement" featuring a stylised photograph by John Blomfield. A significant issue of the magazine under Moorcock's editorship, which was published increasingly irregularly from this period onwards. The style and content differed from previous issues, focussing more on visual deployments (John Sladek supplies critiques of Marshall McLuhan's work), most notably in Paolozzi's work (the artist is credited as "Aeronautics Advisor") and J.G. Ballard's rear cover. The issue was reviewed in 'Psychotic: The Psychedelic Adult Pulp Fanzine' in 1968 by Richard E. Geis: "when I began Auto Ancestral Fracture by Brian Aldiss and C.C. Shackleton in New Worlds 178, I knew immediately I was reading experimental writing, but I didn't realize how experimental until I came upon printer's errors that I soon realized were not errors; they had been written that way, and were, to boot, word games and puns! And the deeper I sank into the story the more monstrous, unnerving and astonishing the puns and word ploys became. The story is one of a series about a post-war world recovering from almost universal bombing by psycho-chemicals. The effects have been culturally and psychologically shattering." Rare. Spine sunned and a Dymo label on upper spine flagging up Ed Emshwiller's presence, lower corner a little bumped, otherwise good condition.
