336 pp.; 26 x 21.5 cm.; sewn bound; black-and-white & color; edition size unknown; unsigned and unnumbered; offset-printed "This radical new study aims to change the way that some of the most influential artists of the past 40 years are seen--all of them women. Emphasizing questions of autonomy, critical intelligence and artistic intention, Witness to Her Art presents works by Adrian Piper, Mona Hatoum, Cady Noland, Jenny Holzer, Kara Walker, Daniela Rossell and Eau de Cologne, a magazine published by gallerist Monika Sprüth. The artworks are accompanied by original writings by the artists, contemporaneous criticism and newly commissioned essays by Pamela Franks, Aruna D'Souza, Johanna Burton, David Levi Strauss, Hamza Walker and Cuauhtémoc Medina. The ambitious works presented and interpreted herein invite us to consider the impact of the feminist revolution across generations while rendering obsolete any stigma associated with shows or catalogues limited to women artists. Taking its lead from Conceptualism, feminism, and from its included artists, Witness to Her Art reaches for art history's capacity as a medium of world-making." -- publisher's statement. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu.

Participating artists included Vito Hannibal Acconci, Terence Anderson, Arakawa, Gregory Battcock, Matthew Benedict, Michael Brownstein, Scott Burton, James Lee Byars, Rosemarie Castoro, Eduardo Costa, Bill Creston, Larry Fagin, Madeline Gins, John Giorno, Bobbi Gormley, Tom Gormley, Dan Graham, Katherine Greef, Stephen Kaltenbach, Joseph Kosuth, Leandro Katz, Alcides Lanzy, Lucy Lippard, Rosemary Mayer, Ben Patterson, John Perreault, Lil Picard, Adrian Piper, H Alexander Roberts, Marjorie Strider, Mr. T., Bernar Venet, Frank Lincoln Viner, Anne Waldman, Lewis Warsh, Luis Wells, Hannah Weiner and Lawrence Weiner. These organized street works can be understood as extensions of both the Pop art Happenings of the earlier 1960s and the street protests taking place in New York City and throughout the country during the 1968 elections, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Vietnam War. Whereas the Pop happenings usually took place in galleries and performance spaces, the street works were unconfined by physically walled-in spaces. Enacted in open environments, comingled with the natural flow of pedestrians, these performances created unlimited possibilities for happenstance with the sidewalk as the stage and the city as backdrop, the inhabitants of New York became active participants with the artists, willingly or not. In den WarenkorbZustand: Good. Original color lithographs on Rives paper. 29 x 22.5 inches. Signed, dated and annotated "H. C. VII." in pencil. Repaired marginal tear in upper margin.Operating first from a studio and gallery just east of downtown Dallas and later at a larger space in Deep Ellum on Main Street, the Harts and Lemke joined forces with master printers Tom Piper and Bill Lagatutta to create a body of work that substantially increased the profile of fine-art printing in the state. In the 1980s, Peregrine produced more than 600 titles representing the work of 90-plus artists."Lone Star Impressions" includes items in the museum's Permanent Collection by Jack Mims, Al Souza along with the multi-artist "Celebrate Texas Suite" (Bates, Derek Boshier, Nic Nicosia and Earl Staley). There also are complementing works showcasing art by the Blackburns, Dozier, Hassell, Lee N. Smith III and Michael Tracy.A Texas Legacy of printmaking, Peregrine Press existed for over ten years in Dallas, first at the studio and gallery located at Peak and Ross just east of downtown Dallas and later at a larger studio in Deep Ellum on Main Street. Founded in 1981 by Mike and Jo Ann Hart with Gerry Lemke, Peregrine was one of the first fine art presses in Texas. The Harts and Lemke established their press with a commitment to collaborate with the emerging and established artists that lived and worked in Texas. Being located in Dallas gave Peregrine access to a group of young artists which included David Bates, John Alexander, Ed and Linda Blackburn, Dan Rizzie and also brought in seasoned Texas artists such as Otis Dozier, Joseph Glasco and Robert Gordy as well as many others. Artists from outside the Texas realm also came to their door, including a memorable collaboration with Jean-Michel Basquiat. Mike and Gerry shared master-printer responsibilities while Jo Ann maintained the gallery and business side of the operation. Realizing that more printing help was needed, Tom Piper, an experienced master printer was hired. Bill Lagatutta, currently the senior master printer at Tamarind, began as Peregrine's master printer in 1986.At the end of the ten years of work, over 600 titles (editions and monotypes) with over 90 artists had been created. The prints reveal the decade of the 80's through the lens of the artists working at Peregrine. The prints exhibited at Flatbed represent a small selection of the work that was created.…
