As well as examining Turner's novel use of medical metaphor as a weapon of religious controversy in the above work, this paper intends to demonstrate that Turner's "medical" treatise is, in fact, a work of major political significance, and that far from representing Turner's abandonment of religious and political concerns, as has been claimed, it is, rather, a devastating indictment of the Church of Rome and of what Turner regarded as the remnants of Romanism in the Church of England.
