Die Herausgeber irren allerdings mit ihrer Angabe "Faksimile der Ausgabe aus dem Jahr 1668" - dazu haben sie sich wohl durch die Jahreszahl 1668 auf dem letzten Kupfer der Vorlage verleiten lassen. Bei der Vorlage handelt es in Wirklichkeit um die Ausgabe, Paris, Charles-Antoine Jombert, (ca. 1765) - der Satz "Cet abrege d'Osteologie est extrait du Traite des Os, par M. du Verney, lequel fait partie des Oeuvres anatomiques de cet homme celebre, imprimees chez Jombert, en 1761, en deux volumes in-quarto, avec beaucoup de figures" am Schluß der Einleitung von Teil 2, führt die Datierung der Vorlage auf das Jahr 1668 ad absurdum. The third edition of Roger de Piles' French language translation of Charles Alphonse du Fresnoy's Latin poem about the art of painting, termed a critical treatise on the practice of the art, including general advice to students. Very scarce in all early French language editions.The poem was first translated into French by de Piles in 1668, and later into English by John Dryden.Bound in to the rear of the work are thirty-one engraved plates from artist Sebastien Leclerc, with an engraved title page reading 'Figures D'Academie', also from publisher Nicolas Langlois, and frequently appearing to the rear of this work.
