First edition of Wellekens and Vlaming's collection of georgic poetry, illustrated with engravings by Jan Goeree. Most of the poems are on gardens, fishing, ruins, arts, etc. It contains laureate poems on the outdoor places Hoogerwoerd and Eindenhout., and Vlaming's description in rhyme of five allegorical paintings made by Barent Graet in the house of his mother in law Agnes Block, which are also depicted, and eight heroic poems. The second edition, which was in fact a title-issue, was published in 1735 by Jacob ter Beek in Amsterdam.With the bookplate of Henri Joseph Francotte mounted on the front pastedown. The boards are somewhat soiled and warped. The leaves are slightly browned. Otherwise a fine copy with wide margins.l STCN 171537734; cf. Scheepers I, 203; Scheepers II, 297 (second ed.). Contemporary vellum with the manuscript authors on the spine, sewn on 4 supports laced through the joints, red and blue sprinkled edges. With an engraved frontispiece, an engraved vignette on the title page, 7 full-page engraved part-titles, 7 engraved plates (1 folding, 6 full page), 16 engravings in the text, several woodcut endpieces and initials; all engravings by J. Amsterdam, Adriaen Wor en de Erv. van G. Onder de Linden, 1730, 8vo., full leather binding with goldtooling and ribbed spine, red sprinkled edges, [16]+297+[11] pp., the leather of the binding shows some wear and tear with worn spots along the hinge en the corners, but the constructions is intact and solid with the original headbands and reading ribbon in place. The pages are mostly clean with only some discoloured endpapers and some waterstains. On the front flyleaf an ownership signature has been removed damaging the paper slightly. The engraved titlepage has been repaired of reinforced with a strip of paper along the top edge, not interfering with the illustration. Besides the engraved titlepage (J. Houbrake sculp.), there is an engraved vignet on the titlepage (J. Goeree), an engraved head piece, two full page engravings and two fold out engravings (Carminus Perrellli Reg. Arch. del). Jacopo Sannazaro (1458-1530) - also known as Actius Sincerus Sannazarius - was an Italian poet and humanist. He is best remembered for his humanist classic Arcadia, a masterwork that illustrated the possibilities of poetical prose in Italian, and instituted the theme of Arcadia, representing an idyllic land, in European literature. Sannazaro's elegant style was the inspiration for much courtly literature of the 16th century, including Sir Philip Sidney's Arcadia. This edition from 1730 concerns a Dutch translation.

Wellekens bezingt in 'Endenhout' (1709) de buitenplaats van de Amsterdamse koopman Jan Muyser, gelegen ten zuiden van Haarlem, aan het eind van de Haarlemmerhout. Zijn vriend de koopman-geleerde Pieter Vlaming (Amsterdam 1686 - Haarlem 1733) somt in 'Hogerwoert' (1708) nauwgezet al het aantrekkelijks op dat zijn hofstede, gelegen tussen Overveen en het Spaarne, een vierdedeel van een uur buiten Haarlem, te bieden heeft. De bundel bevat verder Vlamings berijmde beschrijving van vijf allegorische schilderstukken die Barent Graet gemaakt had in het huis van zijn schoonmoeder Agnes Block. De schilderijen zijn afgebeeld door Jan Goeree. Deze kunstenaar maakte ook de fraaie illustraties bij de pastorale gedichten van Wellekens. Verder bevat de bundel acht heldinnenbrieven, een literair genre dat vooral in Nederland druk beoefend werd en waarin een heldin (soms een held) haar geliefde schrijft op een dramatisch moment in haar leven. De eerste druk van deze dichtbundel was 25 jaar tevoren verschenen. Deze tweede druk is in feite een titeluitgave: het zetsel is gelijk aan dat in de uitgave van 1710. Alleen de titelpagina is opnieuw gezet en achterin is het Bericht voor den boekbinder vervangen door een fondslijstje van Jacob ter Beek.
