Première édition. Exemplaire bien complet de ses 5 planches. En 1740, Sigorgne est nommé… professeur de philosophie au Collège Duplessis à Paris où il fut l'un des principaux défenseurs des nouvelles théories newtoniens. Les présentes institutions newtoniennes constituent une introduction claire et pédagogique sur le sujet. La carrière de Sigorgne à Paris s'interrompit de manière brutale en 1749 lorsqu'il fut arrêté comme l'auteur présumé de vers satiriques sur Louis XV et Madame de Pompadour. Il fut exilé à Mâcon où il a travailla comme administrateur ecclésiastique tout en poursuivant ses travaux scientifiques. Auréoles à la troisième planche du premier tome, sinon intérieur propre.

L'auteur, l'abbé Pierre Sigorgne, enseigna les principes de Newton à la Sorbonne et rédigea plusieurs études sur ses travaux. Cet ouvrage est la meilleure introduction à la physique de Newton ; il contribua largement à la répandre dans le monde scientifique français de l'époque. Il connaîtra diverses rééditions et traductions au cours du XVIIIe siècle. Reliures un peu défraîchies mais solides, quelques petites rousseurs et taches éparses. Quelques annotations anciennes.
