Pierre Galin (Bordeaux, 1786 - 1822) essaya d'apprendre la musique sans maître. Il estima que les traités élémentaires de musique de son temps étaient inutiles et dès lors créa sa… propre méthode. "Ecrit dans un style simple et sans aucune espèce de prétention littéraire, c'est un modèle de logique, de netteté et de précision qui rappelle le Discours de la méthode de Descartes : ceux qui voudront le lire avec attention ne trouveront pas la comparaison exagérée. Le seul reproche qu'on pourrait lui adresser, c'est de manquer de divisions et de subdivisions, ce qui en rend la lecture un peu difficile : à cela près, c'est un chef-d'oeuvre d'exposition scientifique." (Buisson, Nouveau dictionnaire de pédagogie). Ex dono doré sur le premier plat : "A S.M. Le Roy des Pays Bas." Une tache rousse au bas du frontispice. Bel exemplaire. "Written in a simple style and without any kind of literary pretension, it is a model of logic, neatness and precision, reminiscent of Descartes' Discourse on Method."
