As opposed to current books which present novel methods of investigating the skin, it embraces old and new validated techniques, for all skin suborgans and functions. Thus it may be consulted as a small encyclopedia since it provides the answer to any question concerning skin measurement. Each technique is discussed to help select the most appropriate one for each special case. Within each chapter, the meaning of the obtained parameters is highlighted so that the user is able to interpret the results correctly.The second aim of the book is to base the skin investigation on the physiology and anatomy. Each chapter is preceded by a compendium of current knowledge on the structure or function dealt with. Accordingly, this book is also a manual of skin physiology (21 chapters). There is no recent book on skin physiology - most other books deal with molecular biology. However, the molecular level seems too narrow - the dermatologist, cosmetician, and researcher often need this information on skin physiology as well. Furthermore, the information on the physiology at organ level is essential for understanding in vivo non-invasive investigations of skin. A third aim of the book is to provide help for research purposes. This book consists of a collection of quantity of numerical data on skin anatomy and physiology. It contains a novel, and presently unique list of more than 400 physical and biological skin constants, either dimensional or functional, which are all referenced. In addition, this book is also very attractive to clinical dermatologists as some chapters contain valuable maps and are devoted to clinical scoring of current skin diseases. In summary, this book is a resource for all those interested in or already dealing with the skin. It is an expanded and updated version of a French book published in 2000.

Magnifique publication mensuelle française éditée entre mai 1897 et avril 1899, L'Estampe moderne se constitue de chromolithographies inédites qui, contrairement à d'autres revues comme Les Maîtres de l'Affiche et tel qu'il est stipulé sur les serpentes, ont été réalisées spécialement par chaque artiste pour la revue. Ce sont ainsi 100 estampes qui paraissent au total, couvrant les courants artistiques majeurs de la fin du XIXème siècle: Symbolisme, Art Nouveau, Préraphaélites, Orientalistes et Belle Époque. Chaque livraison de quatre estampes est tirée à 2000 exemplaires vendus 3,50F et 100 sur papier Japon proposés à 10F. Henri Piazza prévoit également un tirage confidentiel de très grand luxe: 50 exemplaires sur Japon à grandes marges et 50 en noir sur Chine au prix considérable de 30F. Cette estampe d'un beau format est superbement imprimée sur le plus prestigieux des papiers: le Japon. Epais, soyeux, satiné et nacré, il contribue à faire de chaque page une uvre à part entière. Sa qualité d'absorption de l'encre et son affinité avec les couleurs en font également le support idéal de ces très belles lithographies. L'intérêt des collectionneurs français pour les affiches artistiques s'amplifie au début des années 1890. Octave Uzanne, pour qualifier cette fièvre invente le terme d'«affichomanie». L'affiche, à l'origine populaire et placardée dans les rues de la capitale, devient alors objet d'art et son support éphémère se fait précieux et voué à la conservation. Piazza décide de soustraire l'affiche à sa vocation publicitaire et de l'élever au rang d'uvre d'art à part entière au même titre que le livre illustré de luxe. A magnificent French monthly publication edited between May 1897 and April 1899, L'Estampe moderne consists of original chromolithographs which, unlike other magazines such as Les Maîtres de l'Affiche and as stipulated on the tissue guards, were created specifically by each artist for the magazine. Thus 100 prints appeared in total, covering the major artistic movements of the late 19th century: Symbolism, Art Nouveau, Pre-Raphaelites, Orientalists and Belle Époque. Each issue of four prints was printed in 2000 copies sold at 3.50F and 100 on Japan paper offered at 10F. Henri Piazza also planned a confidential very deluxe printing: 50 copies on Japan paper with wide margins and 50 in black on China paper at the considerable price of 30F.
