Par un choix esthétique délibéré et pour correspondre à la reliure en deux tomaisons, il n'a été conservé que deux pages de titre, tome I et tome II, chacune au début de chaque volume, ainsi dans les volumes, les chapitres se suivent sans transition ; le chapitre VIII suivant le chapitre VII de la fin du premier volume. Bel exemplaire, bien frais. Cette circumnavigation à vocation scientifique commandée par Duperrey eut lieu de 1822 à 1825, elle intéresse principalement l'Océanie, bien que le premier volume ait pour objet d'étude le Brésil, les îles malouines et le Pérou ; les trois autres s'occupent de Tahiti, Bora Bora, Nouvelle Irlande et Nouvelle Galle du sud, Nouvelle Zélande, îles Sandwich, Australie, ïle Maurice. Lesson fut le naturaliste et le médecin pharmacien du navire, responsable de recenser et collecter les specimens et échantillons ; il sera le premier à donner une description des oiseaux de paradis. Hormis un chapitre dans les voyages de Dumont Durville qui fut officier sur La Coquille, c'est la seule relation que nous ayons de ce voyage autour du monde de Duperrey. L'ensemble est très riche en informations détaillées tant sur les coutumes des différents peuples visités, que sur la faune et la flore, le regard de Lesson étant essentiellement scientifique.
