In den WarenkorbFirst edition of the novelization of the twentieth James Bond film, the picture that brought the fortieth anniversary of the series and the end of two tenures at once, Pierce Brosnan's as 007 and Raymond Benson's as the author of the Bond novels. Octavo, original boards. Boldly signed on the title page by Raymond Benson, who has added "Be cool!!" above the title, and by Pierce Brosnan, who has drawn the peace sign he habitually adds to his signature. Benson was the third writer and the first American entrusted with the official continuation of Ian Fleming's series, having come to it by way of The James Bond Bedside Companion, his 1984 study of Bond in print and on screen that was nominated for an Edgar Award. Between 1996 and 2002 he wrote six original Bond novels, three short stories, and three novelizations of the Brosnan films, of which this was the last. Brosnan played Bond four times, beginning with GoldenEye in 1995 and ending with this film, in which 007 is captured in North Korea and left to rot in a prison cell for fourteen months before he is traded back. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Based on the screenplay by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Die Another Day (2002) was released on the fortieth anniversary of Dr. No and was conceived as a celebration of the whole run, salting its story with references to every film that had come before it. Directed by Lee Tamahori, it opens with Bond surfing into North Korea on a rogue wave, has him betrayed, captured, and traded back to the West a broken man stripped of his double-O status, and sends him after a diamond magnate named Gustav Graves whose identity conceals the officer Bond was supposed to have killed in the opening reel. Halle Berry played the NSA agent Jinx in the year she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Monster's Ball, with Toby Stephens as Graves, Rosamund Pike in her first feature role as the double agent Miranda Frost, and Judi Dench returning as M. It became the highest grossing James Bond film released to that date, and it proved the last of its line in more than one sense: it was Brosnan's final appearance as the character, the series was rebooted four years later with Daniel Craig in Casino Royale, and no further novelization of a Bond film has been published since. Raymond Benson (b. 1955) succeeded John Gardner as the continuation author in 1996 and wrote Zero Minus Ten, The Facts of Death, High Time to Kill, DoubleShot, Never Dream of Dying and The Man with the Red Tattoo alongside the three novelizations, before the literary Bond passed in time to Sebastian Faulks, Jeffery Deaver, William Boyd and Anthony Horowitz.…
