Quarantine programmes form part of a first time of defence against possible adverse effects resulting from the transboundary movement of aquatic species. Although codes of practice for the international movement of aquatic animals have been developed by various international organisations in many countries they have rarely been applied. Nevertheless they provide a starting point for designing national and regional fish health regulations as well as international agreements aimed at preventing the spread of aquatic animal pathogens. To assist the countries of Asia in formulating technical guidelines on health certification and quarantine for the responsible transboundary movement of aquatic animals FAO in collaboration with the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia Pacific (NACA) the Aquatic Animal Health Research Institute of the Thai Department of Fisheries (AAHRI) and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) conducted a workshop in January 1996 in Bangkok Thailand to review the existing knowledge on aquatic animal quarantine and health certification in Asia and to develop an agreed upon strategy for the formulation of technical guidelines. This document contains ten country papers presented at the workshop some technical background information on general principles of aquatic animal quarantine existing codes of practice the agreed upon strategy and the recommendations of the workshop. 153 pp.

Rare édition originale. Dos, charnières et 3 coutures intérieures renforcés à l'adhésif, rousseurs, sinon bon et rare exemplaire de cet ouvrage précurseur sur l'hypnose. Joseph-Pierre Durand (1826-1900), plus connu sous le nom de Durand de Gros et aussi sous le pseudonyme de J.P. Philips, est l'initiateur en France de la médecine par l'hypnose. Son ?uvre philosophique (de tendance leibnizienne) et anthropologique est bien difficile à classer car, à l'instar de nombreux savants du XIXe siècle, il touchait un peu à tout. Comme son père, il est un fervent adepte de la pensée fouriériste et des idées républicaines. Lors du coup d'État de 1851, il est condamné à un an de prison ferme et 10 000 Fr d'amende pour un article trop virulent. Alors que son père est arrêté, il parvient à se cacher et à partir en Angleterre en 1852. En exil à Londres, il assiste aux premières expériences de suggestion hypnotique récemment importées des Etats-Unis sous le nom d'électro-biologie. Afin de conserver secret son retour en France en 1853, il utilise le pseudonyme de docteur J.-P. Phillips et se fait l'apôtre de cette science nouvelle par des conférences et la rédaction d'un ouvrage, l'Electro-dynamisme vital, en 1855. C'est après un séjour à Philadelphie, où il termine ses études médicales interrompues, qu'il publie le Cours de Braidisme ou hypnotisme nerveux. Sa nécrologie datée du 17 novembre 1900 souligne qu'il fut « le hardi précurseur des écoles de Nancy et de la Salpêtrière ».
