Among the papers are two by J.J. Thomson, winner of the 1906 Nobel Prize for Physics, and Rutherford, who won the 1908 Nobel Prize for Chemistry. One of his papers was a precursor to the first Marconi wireless telegraph and radio stations. A complete set of the abridged version of the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society till 1750, in mixed editions; scarce on the market as a complete set in a contemporary binding, the series is an imposing and wonderfully illustrated survey of evolving scientific knowledge over the period, the Royal Society being the chief organ of the scientific community at the time. With 314 folding copper plates. Uniform mid-18th-century calf, twin red morocco labels, gilt in compartments with urn and foliate tooling, light blue speckled edges. Joints cracked but holding (a couple a little loose but none close to detaching), rather worn with various labels lost or chipped, contents generally a little browned, nonetheless a sound, presentable set, the folding plates without tears, without any restoration.
