Manila [1933], Philippine Shell-Craft Corp. A group of five hand-painted Placuna Placenta shells, color greetings for Christmas 1933, two in original envelopes with English descriptions, one is a dated presentation. OBSCURE ! This is an unusual group. The first is a "SEASON'S GREETINGS FROM THE PHILIPPINES" with the presenter's name: "Naturdad Hicoo, "To Mr. Vernon J. Snapp, December 25, 1933." * There is a design of coconut palms and a small house with a Philippine woman in native dress. This is enclosed in a plain white envelope along with a descriptive sheet [10 x 8 cm.] printed in colors. * All six items are actual clear "Kapas" [Placuna Placenta] shells with hand-drawn designs and hand-written messages, created by Philippine craftsmen. * There are three oblong shells, 10 x 7 cm., two in envelope with the color description; two others with color illustrations and te xt hand-written: a. "BEST WISHES PHILIPPINES" b. "CHRISTMAS GREETINGS FROM THE PHILIPPINES" "Ruth" The above two are about 8 x 5 cm., and the other 8 x 5.5 cm. * Condition the group is very good. The envelopes have a few minor tears, else solid, as issued. * These shells are unique to the Philippines and not found elsewhere. They have been in use for hundreds of years from the time of the early Spaniards who used them for windows and doors instead of glass. Per the enclosed descriptive sheet. *.
