Ursprung es una de las figuras más lúcidas de la crítica de arte y arquitectura actual. Su posición a caballo entre varias disciplinas le permite acometer temas muy diversos que abordan la relación que existe entre la economía, la arquitectura y el arte contemporáneos, con el propósito de localizar aquellos puertos de acceso, zonas de conflicto y fricción y grietas que permitan ver con mayor claridad los mecanismos de cambio y la conexión entre disciplinas y temas aparentemente no relacionados. Al intentar superar la distinción entre diferentes campos de conocimiento, Ursprung yuxtapone temas de arquitectura, arte y economía en un mismo nivel de representación. Desde esta óptica, los análisis inciden sobre aquellos puntos de conflicto dentro del arte y la arquitectura actuales, desde el papel que desempeñan la crítica o la enseñanza de la arquitectura y la crisis de la representación hasta el análisis de la obra de arquitectos como, entre otros, Peter Zumthor, Eduardo Souto de Moura, Lacaton & Vassal, Christian Kerez, Ábalos+Sentkiewicz o Sauerbruch Hutton y de artistas como Olafur Eliasson, Gordon Matta-Clark, Hans Danuser y Lara Almarcegui. Philip Ursprung es catedrático de Historia del Arte y la Arquitectura en el Instituto de Historia y Teoría de la Arquitectura (gta) de la ETH de Zúrich. Tras haber estudiado historia del arte, historia y literatura alemana en Ginebra, Viena y Berlín, se doctoró en Historia del Arte por la Freie Universität de Berlín. Ha sido profesor en la Hochschule der Künste (hoy Universität der Künste) de Berlín, en la GSAPP de la Columbia University y en la Universität Zürich.
