Contains numerous wood engravings by Reynold Stones.Originally inscribed as a gift to his masters, Newington provides a cookery book with curious recipes and remedies, many of which are simple and some of which one would think mad. Spoken in his original words and instructions, it is a charming little book and an intriguing source for historians looking at eighteenth century Britain. In the publisher's original quarter cloth, with pink paper boards, and in the original clipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart, with slight fading and faint browning to board extremities. Browning and fading to front of dust wrapper and the odd mark to rear wrapper. The odd small chip to wrapper edges, and joints have failed. Wrapper should be kept in protective covering. Flyleaves are clean. Minimal marks to end papers, with age toning. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are clean, with age toning, and the small faint spot to first and last leaves. Very Good.
