A tight and attractive first edition of this opera, the tale of an Iowa family trapped by a snowstorm in the Sierra Nevadas enroute to California. Hallmark Hall of Fame televised it on 16 December 1960 and this edition contains photographs from that airing. Strangely enough, in 1962 Engle published a prose version (illustrated by Leonard Everett Fisher) under the same title (New York: E.P. Dutton) -- and this sharp copy of the opera text is accompanied by a fine first edition of this 8vo orange clothbound prose version in very good pictorial dust jacket.
