Édition originale de ce livre de problèmes de botanique, dont le but est de r…etrouver le nom de la plante à partir d'une description. Pour éduquer les néophytes, l'auteur propose d'employer les méthodes mises au point par Tournefort, Linné et Jussieu. Ce volume est accompagné d'un album de planches gravées représentant des spécimens naturels rehaussés de couleurs à la main. Certaines sont signées sur la planche, R. Turpin. Le nom de Philibert serait en réalité le pseudonyme d'un certain Legendre (prénom inconnu), "ancien Conseiller au Parlement" selon Quérard qui après "des fautes graves" dut changer d'emploi et se cacha sous le nom Philibert qu'il utilisa pour publier six ouvrages scientifiques entre 1797 et 1805. Legendre, ancien conseiller au Parlement, connu plus tard comme botaniste sous le nom de J.-C. Philibert.…L'ouvrage distingue les couronnes des plaisirs, des talents, des vertus et du pouvoir. Il concerne les usages et rites des différents pays. Charles François Capé, d'abord relieur de la bibliothèque du Louvre, il s'établit à son compte en 1848 au 16 de la Rue Dauphine et devient « relieur de l'Impératrice ». Il acquiert une clientèle bourgeoise pour laquelle il réalise notamment des pastiches de reliures anciennes. Il a réalisé pour Masséna, duc de Rivoli des reliures en plein maroquin vers 1862 aux armes de sa famille. Il était surtout connu pour avoir été le relieur de l'impératrice Eugénie.Choisi par le duc d'Aumale au titre des trois meilleurs relieurs français de son temps, deux de ses ?uvres viennent enrichir la collection de manuscrits présentée en 1862 dans le cabinet des livres du duc d'Aumale et désormais conservée au château de Chantilly. /S3-8 Frottements et épidermures au dos, bonne condition.
