In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Near Fine. None (illustrator). First edition. Cloth bound, sharp copy of this very scarce pamphlet concerned with the character of a soldier. Very scarce pamphlet, rarely seen on the market and not listed in any institutional library.Published by Richard Carlile and sold for two pence, this pamphlet discusses the nature of soldiers with discussion on their character and war sharing the author's radical views: 'A Soldier is a male animal that hires itself out to slaughter the human species' [p.4]Richard Carlile was a famous agitator and fierce campaigner for the establishment of universal suffrage and freedom of the press in the United Kingdom. He published works by Thomas Paine and radical pamphlets and journals, including Sherwin's Political Register, short lived due to its feature of the first full eyewitness report of the Peterloo massacre; Carlile condemned the massacred and pressed for the punishment of those responsible. The journal was later renamed The Republican. Rebound in full cloth binding, renewed endpapers. Externally lovely. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting scattered to leaves. Near Fine. book.
