(Publisher:…) "Chahar Mahal va Bakhtiari provides an in-depth study of the traditional weavings of the Bakhtiari nomads and the settled peoples of the Chahar Mahal and Feridan regions in western Iran, both as sophisticated works of art and symbols of a disappearing, pre-industrial way of life. The captivating beauty of these weavings is the work of highly skilled dyers and weavers, who used the fine local wool and dyes to create characteristic warm, glowing colours transformed into a wealth of imaginative traditional designs. Based on extensive field studies, comparative research, as well as technical and design analysis, the author presents rugs and carpets from some eighty villages. The book includes many wonderful and previously unpublished pieces, such as the oldest known Bakhtiari and a number of the so-called Great Khan carpets.
