Steinhauer began compiling these bodies of work starting in 1996, while working on his first book, Vietnam: Portraits and Landscapes. Steinhauer's fascination of Vietnam began when he heard about the country from his father after he returned from serving in the war as a surgeon in 1966-67. He first arrived in the country in 1993 and continued to dedicate his life ever since to live, work, and photograph the amazing beauty of the country and people. Few things are as seared into the mind of those of my age cohort than the Vietnam War. Here is a book about this country many of us have come to know of or about, more than we thought was possible, by a son whose father served there in the US Marines in the mid-sixties. For your consideration, I am pleased to be able to offer a large format photo book (11 ¼ x 12 inches, 96 pages), titled: Vietnam Portraits and Landscapes with photographs by the Artist/Photographer Peter Steinhauer. This is more than a coffee table book as there is insightful text commentary, by Nguyen Quan and James Whitlow Delano to augment Steinhaurer s stunning photo contributions. This book is flat signed by the Artist on the half title page. The better part of this book, pages 15 to 87 of the heavy and glossy paper stock, are large format, single page mostly, black & white photos. This book was published by Edition Stemmle of New York and Zurich, dated 2002 and I believe it is a First Edition (and the Artist s first major publication). It is bound in matte black cloth hard covers with silver gilt titles on the spine. It is protected by a glossy printed dust jacket. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows some edge wear, particularly at the top & bottom of the spine and the lower right-hand corner, where small tears have been inexpertly repaired with common scotch tape. The glossy finish of the dust jacket is also a bit scuffed. The hard covers are clean and bright and the silver gilt titles on the spine as well. The only mark I found in this book is the Artist s signature; the interior pages are clean and bright throughout. The hinges are fully intact and the binding tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Signed by Illustrator.
