Karte. Zustand: Gut. Grossformatiges Druckfoto 25,3x20,3 cm von Peter Morrisson bildseitig mit blauem Stift signiert mit eigenhändigem Zusatz "Martin best Wishes"; the singin lawyer /// Autogramm Autograph signiert signed signee /// Peter Morrison (b.1940-) was one of Scotland's most popular singers and entertainers, known as "the singing lawyer" due to the fact that he combined his early singing career with his job as a lawyer. Morrison was born into a musical family and had a lot of musical encouragement at home. His parents sang in the church choir, and his father's six brothers were all singers, most notable of which was his Uncle Archie who went to Milan to sing. Indeed, Rothesay amateur operatic productions always featured a list of Morrisons. He was educated at Greenock Academy and was a solo singer at school. He later sang with a skiffle group. Morrison spent six years at Glasgow University. For the first four years he studied for a Master of Arts degree, graduating in 1961, then he spent another two years studying for his LLB, which qualified him for the legal profession. Throughout his studies, Morrison sang as a member of university musical societies and was a member of the chapel choir. In the middle of his second year he had been asked to sing in America with the world-famous Andrew Macpherson Singers, but his mother would not let him. However Peter already could see himself working for the BBC in future; listening to many of the singers he thought: "I could do that." After graduating in 1964 he completed two years' legal apprenticeship, but then found himself at a crossroads. He recalled: "I was given the chance to start an operatic career by joining Scottish Opera, but I felt it would mean discarding part of my life."[2] Instead, he continued with his legal career but also worked as a singer in his spare time. In 1966 Morrison was married to Irene, a singer he had sung with at university in The Cecilian Society (Glasgow University's musical theatre society) and the Arthur Blake Singers. BBC In 1968 or 1969 Morrison successfully auditioned for the BBC. On the panel was Freddie Rimmer, professor of music at Glasgow University. By this time Morrison had taken a new job as a lawyer at the town clerk's office in Clydebank, while Irene was singing in pantomime at the Alhambra bringing in £18 a week. Later. the thought of giving up law to concentrate on his singing did occur to him once when he left the legal partnership of which he used to be a member ? but he decided against it. Instead he reasoned the best way of combining the two jobs would be to set up practice on his own, which he did in the centre of Glasgow. Television On 6 December 1971 Morrison appeared in an edition of the BBC-1 Scotland's series Castles in the Air (22:10-22:40) which came from Falkland Palace. One of his first television appearances was when he guested on the BBC Scotland show, Let's Meet for Music, on Saturday 8 September 1973 (repeated on the network on the afternoon of Monday 5 November 1973 (15.00-15:30). From 20 October 1973 he co-hosted the hugely popular Songs of Scotland series on BBC-1 Scotland, teaming up with the folk singer Alastair McDonald, who he had first met while working on Castles in the Air. A 50-minute special on BBC-2 on 14 August 1974, eponymously titled Peter Morrison (19:35-20:25). The billing said: "Scotland's new singing star Peter Morrison, who is a young Glasgow lawyer, introduces a programme of his kind of music and comedy in a special 50-minute show." His guests were Anita Harris, Chic Murray, Roy Hanlon, Bernard Sumner and the Toad Choir with Brian Fahey and the Scottish Radio Orchestra with leader Ian Tyre. On 13 January 1975 he was a guest in the first of a new series of Grampian Television's The Jim MacLeod Show (18:10-18:45), returning again on 3 February 1975. In 1975 he fronted the network BBC-2 series Something to Sing About. He fronted the Once Upon a Song series on Scottish Television. In years gone by Peter has toured with his own show 'Spread a Little Happiness' while headlining the blockbusting 'Pride of the Clyde' show in the King's and Pavilion Theatres in Glasgow as well as in theatres in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. He also performed overseas in the United States, Canada and Australia. A portrait of Peter Morrison was drawn by Emilio Coia in the mid-1970s and is stored at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. Family Married to Irene. His daughter is the singer/actress Jackie Morrison, born on 27 September 1968 in Glasgow. /// Standort Wimregal Ill-Umschl2020-10 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 10.
