"1316 is a trilogy, the sequence based upon Dante's The Divine Comedy (most likely the year he completed the work). This work is a response to Dante's imaginary world. The first book explores the Inferno, Book 2 travels through Purgatory,… and Book 3 makes the journey to Paradise. All three books share a twin through line: Colour and Geometry. As an example, Book 3 used the colours of blue and gold and their implied light, peace, and sanctity, and the geometry of the square to enforce the perfection and release offered by Paradise. On our ten-year journey with Dante, we have constantly referred back to artists such as William Blake, Gustav Dore, Tom Phillips, and Colin McCahon, who also contended with Dante's text. We have drawn on Angela's photographs of texts and inscriptions used in the interiors of Italian churches and domes.we looked for those things in Dante that rippled out to our own times. A chapbook based on the artists' book, Dancing over dark waters. The text is reset, and different images unique to this book appear, except for the cover, which reproduces part of an etching from the main work. The other images comprise linocut relief prints, and an interleaved etching on acid free tissue, which varies in different copies of the edition. The work reveals the three artists' response to one of Sydney's darkest historical colonial sites, Cockatoo Island, an imperial prison, industrial school, reformatory and jail. The text also evokes the present day situation of refugees and refers to "those other islands we use as a noose -- Nauru, Christmas Island, Timor, Malaysia," asking: "When will the time come . when compassion will span the dark waters like an indestructible bridge uniting us and the best part of our dreams for the future with the best part of their dreams for the future." - NLA website.

Juego y teoría del Duende(The play and theory of the duende) is one of Lorca's most celebrated lectures. Theduende in Spanish mythology is a demon or hob-goblin, a mischief-maker who is unknowable and unpredictable. In his lecture, Lorca uses the term duende to describe the emotional spirit within an artist, poet or musician, the artistic force borne out of ones own inner demons which cannot be controlled. The duende rises up our of one's personal history, one's love and loss, the struggles of our own existence, to release an expression which is generally termed as art, but which in fact is the released voice of the duende. In this beautiful and graphic artist's book, conceived by Nicholas Pounder, Lyssiotis illustrates Lorca's concept with imagery which is mystical, visionary and raw.
