Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Minor shelf wear, binding tight, pages clean and unmarked. Browse this Book on GoogleEnduring Motives examines tradition and religious beliefs as they are expressed in landscape, the built environment, visual symbols, stories, and ritual. Bringing together archaeologists and Native American experts, this volume focuses on long-lived religious traditions of the native peoples of the Americas and how religion codifies, justifies, and reinforces these traditions by placing a high value on continuity of beliefs and practice. Using clues from the archaeological record to piece together the oldest religions of the Americas, Enduring Motives is organized into four parts. Part 1 creates continuity through structure, iconography, and sacred stories that correspond to culture-specific symbolic representations of the universe. Part 2 explores the encoding of tradition in place and object, or how people use objects to enliven tradition and pass it on to future generations. Part 3 examines stability and change and shows how traditions can evolve over time without losing their core cultural significance. The final part recognizes deep-time traditions through the evidence of ancient cosmology and religious tradition. Spanning cultures as diverse as the Aztec, Plains Indians, Hopi, Mississippian, and Southwest Pueblo, Enduring Motives brings to light new insights on ancient religious beliefs, practices, methods, and techniques, which allow otherwise intangible facets of culture to be productively explored.

Every day, in some part of the world, an Arthur Miller play is performed. In the nearly 60 years since its first production, the Pulitzer Prizewinning Death of a Salesman has been become a classic, a staple of school anthologies of American literature and of acting companies' repertoires. It has received worldwide productions, whether as a study of parent-child relationships, as in its landmark 1976 production directed by Miller in Beijing, or as a critique of Western capitalism and has been filmed once for television and twice for movies. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Trade paperback. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: No DJ issued. First Printing [Stated]. xx, [2], 348, [2] pages. Illustrations (Figures and Tables). Notes. About the Contributors. Among the contributors were: Colin S. Gray, Robert Pfaltzgraff, Henry F. Cooper, Jr.,Michael E. O'Hanlon, Roger d. Launius, and John M. Logsdon. Among the topics address are: Spacepower, Strategic Theory, Military Theory, International Relations, Military Uses of Space, Freedom of Action, Airpower, Cyberpower, Civil Space, Commercial Space, and Space Law. M. Elaine Bunn is a consultant on strategic issues with 40 years of experience in the U.S. government working on defense policy. Her writings include articles and book chapters on deterrence, assurance of allies, strategic planning, nuclear policy, missile defense, arms control, and preemption. She is a member of the Nuclear Deterrence External Advisory Board at Sandia National Laboratories. Bunn served as deputy assistant secretary of defense for nuclear and missile defense policy (DASD/NMD) from 2013 to early 2017. Prior to being appointed DASD/NMD, Bunn was a distinguished research fellow in the Center for Strategic Research at National Defense University's Institute for National Strategic Studies, where she headed a project on future strategic concepts. Before that, she was a senior executive in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), where she worked from 1980 to 2000 in international security policy. Bunn was involved with the 1994, 2001, and 2010 Nuclear Posture Reviews. Bunn, a graduate of the National War College, received an MA from Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies. The concept and rationale for a study of spacepower theory originated in conversations among Department of Defense (DOD) officials during the latter phases of the George W. Bush administration's final Quadrennial Defense Review. After several discussions with researchers in the Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS) at National Defense University (NDU), the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence (Preparation and Warning) requested that NDU "craft a spacepower theory similar to that of other domains, for example, sea power." The terms of reference for this project specifically asked INSS to: develop a theoretical framework for examining the fundamental aspects of spacepower and its relation to the pursuit of national security, economic, informational, and scientific objectives. The theory should document the views and perspectives of the principal users of space and should focus on the underlying assumptions regarding why and how we as a society, nation, or military might use spaceâ"either alone or, more likely, in tandem with other meansâ"to accomplish specific ends. The task for the INSS Spacepower Theory Project team has been to consider the space domain in a broad and holistic way, incorporating a wide range of perspectives from U.S. and international space actors engaged in scientific, commercial, intelligence, and military enterprises. Through a series of 20 seminars, 2 workshops, and 2 major conferences, experts in the global space community provided and exchanged a rich set of viewpoints, ideas, and theories in an ongoing dialogue. Additionally, members of the Spacepower Theory Project team traveled to Japan, China, India, and Europe to capture viewpoints in regions witnessing increasingly diverse and burgeoning space activity.
