Collation : [1] xxxiv pp + 481 pp with 6 coloures plates (chromolithographies) ;[2-4] xpp + xxvii pp + 1363 pp + 5 plates at the end of vol2.III. Complete set bound in the original publisher's cased bindings (Original Pappbände ). Very fine copies without any ex-library markings (nor provenance markings). The spines of the original illustrated cased bindings a bit yellowed, 1 spine which was broken repaired with invisable tape, spotless interiors ! A handsome copy of this monument of German 19th c. erudition in the field of Sanskrit philology. In the preface the author explains that the first important acquisition ( 205 items, collection of John Murray)) was made by his predecessor Wilken. The main part of the collection was bought from the widow of Sir Robert Chambers ( ca. 800 items) in Oxford with the aid of Wilhelm von Humboldt.…
