Edition limited to 1000 copies, 12mo, pp. [14]; a very good copy in gray wrappers, vignette by Gill on front panel, some smudging and soil. Keepsake of the STA, reprinting an historical letter from Pepler "which reveals many unknown incidents" in the life of Eric Gill.

Illustrations and plans in text. Printing at St. Dominics Press. Spine chipped with slight loss of paper (about one inch and a half) at top of spine and slight creasing to yapped edges. Overall near VG.

There is another bookplate on top of the first - this second bookplate has been partially removed, in such a way as to mess up both bookplates. Author's name written on the front endpaper by a previous owner. College library embossed stamp on title page and awful numbers and library name written on copyright page. 47 pages. Printed in good paper, edges left uneven. Small press imprint, but with these library marks on the title page. Otherwise good condition.

One of 200 numbered copies, this no. 56. 5 wood-engravings by David Jones, 3 by Eric Gill: fan shaped design as tail-piece, Lawyer's Wig and St. George and the Dragon. 12 other illustrations by Chute, Harold Purney, Joe Cribb, Hilary Pepler and John Beedham. Pp. x, 69. 8vo., original cloth backed boards with the originalblue dust jacket printed in gold stuck down on the pastedowns boards. Jacket rather faded and chipped at the spine, otherwise a good, uncut copy. Notes at the beginning suggest that "Stock-taking' might have been a more appropriate title as the material was collected from racks and gallies in the printing office during the stock-taking. A very attractive book.

With five engravings and press device. Issued without covers and stitched as issued. The pamphlet is in Very Good++ or better condition and is unopened at the top edge. Some very light markings to the covers and a few light spots the the rear cover. The true first issue with the correct titling 'with engravings by A.E.R.G.' to the front cover. The subsequent variant printed later the same year was issued with the titling changed to 'with emblems by A.E.R.G.' (Taylor and Sewell A5). Scarce with such attributes. With a title page wood engraving by David Jones, who also provides one further illustration, another by Desmond Chute, and several other reproductions. The backstrip cloth just fractionally faded, and with just a trace of very light toning to the free endpapers. A virtually fine copy. No dust wrapper called for. Most uncommon. Signed by Author(s).

This copy is in grey linen boards with paper label. Number 72 of 500 copies. Completely unused.On the front pastedown is the pictorial bookplate, designed by Philip Hagreen and printed in red, of Dunstan & Anne Pruden. Dunstan Pruden was a gold- and silversmith who became a member of the Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic at Ditchling where he established his workshop. In 1933 the Saint Dominic's Press published his book on silversmithing, illustrated by Philip Hagreen.Spine darkened. Covers a bit dusty and marked. Very good. Very scarce.

Illustrated with twelve woodcut illustrations and devices, eleven of which are by Eric Gill. 8vo., in a variatn binding of grey wrappers printed in red (usually the book is bound in red boards printed in black) with an engraving by Gill, fore and lower edges uncut, a little mild rubbing to upper board but otherwise very good and bright. Hammersmith, The Hampshire House Workshops. This was the first book published by Pepler, although not printed by him, (the first book with the S. Dominic's Press imprint was published in 1916) and remains one of the best. Ownership inscription in pencil of Jean Preston.
