Two vintage photographs, a publicity photograph of Lanny Ross and a reference photograph of Lanny Ross, both shot by photographer Ray Jones for the 1934 film. Both photographs with a studio stamp crediting photographer Jones on the verso, and one with two mimeo snipes on the verso, one affixed and one printed. From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. unbound. 10 x 8 inches, no place, no date, circa 1934 -- a vintage photo of a seated Penner wearing a hat and with an unlit cigar between his teeth. He is holding a live white duck in his lap with its head resting on Penner's shoulder. Inscribed on the left side: "To Florence Monett Sincerely Joe Penner." Gently warped, but still in very good condition. Joe Penner was a major craze in Vaudeville during the Depression years of 1933 and 1934. He later parlayed his famous one-liner, "Wanna buy a duck?" into a successful radio career. In the 1930s, his radio show premiered the voice of a young Mel Blanc, whose character, Egghead, was partly based on Penner and was the forerunner of Blanc's legendary character Elmer Fudd.
