En 1684, Claude Le Peletier avait publié une édition du Comes theologus de Pierre Pithou, recueil de passages tirés de l'Écriture et des Pères de l'Église. Dans la continuité de ce modèle, il compose ensuite plusieurs anthologies morales mêlant auteurs sacrés et profanes. Après un Comes rusticus (1692), consacré aux avantages de la vie champêtre, il donne en 1709 ce Comes senectutis, recueil de textes relatifs aux devoirs, aux vertus et aux consolations de la vieillesse, conçu selon le même principe de compilation morale. Claude Le Peletier, prévôts des marchands, érudit et compilateur français de la fin du XVIIe siècle, issu d'un milieu lettré proche de l'administration royale. M-12A.
