Aprox. 4x6" heavy stock card with pen and ink hand-drawn comic figure of a stooped old man reading a letter. Pease has lettered" "Solus(thin piping voice)/ Lo! At Last I'm Famous!/ Someone wants my autograph!/ She shall have it--bless her heart!/ (signed) Lute Pease (and below) "otherwise Lucius Curtis Pease". Pease (1869-1963) was an American cartoonist and winner of a Pulitzer Prize in 1949. His most famous caricatures were of labor leader John L. Lewis. Most of his career was spent with the Newark (NJ) Evening News. After his retirement in 1954, Pease devoted himself to painting portraits and landscapes. Card is in fine condition, no creasing, faint indentation from an old paper clip left side.
