The top end of the text block has darkened and has foxing; the foredge is less thus, and the bottom end is slightly thus. The binder's glue has darkened some areas of the pastedowns; the darkened areas have off-printed onto the free endpapers. An owner's name is on the top end of the front FEP. The pages have a mild, musty odor. Eight page margins have dent lines left by heavy handed use of a pencil. The notes and lines in pencil do not remain. DJ: Publisher's $3.00 is on the front flap; the author's b/w portrait, by Lotte Jacobi, fills the whole back panel. DJ condition: paper has tanned, and the bottom end of the spine panel has even more so; the ends of the folds and the spine panel are chipped, 1/4 in. to 1 1/4 in.; the folds are rubbed; a crease line is across the top end of the back panel; 5 closed tears on the folds, 1/4 in. to 3 1/4 in., are tipped together with glue.
