Zustand: Very good condition. An instructional board to be hung in front of the class (still with the original hanging cord) with 2 engraved plates from the 'Dictionnaire Universelle d'Histoire Naturelle', showing two marsupials, the "kangurus dorsalis; Halmaturus dorsalis, Gray" which is the Black-striped wallaby; and the "Kangurus laniger, Quoy et Gaim; Macropus Laniger, Gould", the great red kangaroo. Geoffroy Saint Hilaire (1772 - 1844) was a French naturalist who with his colleague Jean-Baptiste Lamarck explained evolutionary theories. The two plates, numbered at the upper right, are Plates 18 and 19 of Mammiferes, "1ere Serie: Quadripede a Os Marsupiaux (Is. G. St. Hil); 2eme ordre Marsupiaux, Frugivores". The site "Les collections du Musee National de l'Education" cites this instructional board. 8 3/4 x 5 3/4" plates laid down on stiff black board, 12 1/4 x 17". The plates with embossed red rules and red title at the top; editor's name at lower right. With green hanging cord at top of board. A bit rubbed at corners.
