Diese frühzeitige Beschäftigung mit bildender Kunst war für seine künstlerische Entwicklung von entscheidender Bedeutung und führte in seiner späteren Produktion zu zahlreichen Essays über Kunst in der skandinavischen Kunstpresse, sowie zu drei Büchern über Malerei und Skulptur.
