First edition of this classic yachting work, signed twice by General George S. Patton. Octavo, original publisher's cloth stamped in blind and gilt, illustrated. From the library of General George S. Patton with his ownership signatures to the front panel, "G.S. Patton, Jr." and front free endpaper, "G S Patton June 27 1936." In 1936, George Patton was a lieutenant colonel serving in staff and training roles in Hawaii. He did not command combat troops but worked on tactical doctrine while continuing to advocate for armored warfare. A decorated WWI veteran, he was regarded as talented but abrasive, with his career slowed by the Army's small size and resistance to innovation during the interwar years. Patton suffered a serious head injury playing polo in 1936, one of many equestrian accidents in his life. Very good in a very good dust jacket. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. General George S. Patton remains one of the most controversial and influential military figures in modern American history. Renowned for his aggressive battlefield tactics, uncompromising discipline, and charismatic leadership, Patton played a decisive role in several major Allied campaigns during the Second World War, including the North African campaign, the invasion of Sicily, and the liberation of France following the Normandy landings. Historians have often emphasized his mastery of armored warfare and rapid maneuver strategy, which reflected broader transformations in twentieth-century military doctrine. At the same time, Pattonâs outspoken personality and sometimes inflammatory public remarks complicated his reputation and generated criticism among both contemporaries and later scholars. Nevertheless, his operational successes and enduring influence on modern military strategy have secured his place as one of the most significant American commanders of the twentieth century. …
